Mumbai-based craft beer and hospitality brand Berlin Brew has expanded its city footprint with a new outlet at Kamala Mills in Lower Parel, one of Mumbai’s prominent food, lifestyle and nightlife destinations.

The opening marks another step in Berlin Brew’s plan to develop a multi-outlet taproom business. The brand has set a long-term ambition of growing to approximately 20 outlets, while adapting each location to its neighbourhood rather than replicating a standardised format.

A Mumbai interpretation of Berlin

Berlin Brew draws inspiration from Berlin’s beer culture but combines it with Mumbai’s food preferences, hospitality style and social atmosphere. The brand said it does not seek to recreate a traditional German beer hall. Instead, its format brings together European brewing influences, Indian ingredients and approachable dining.

The Kamala Mills outlet is designed for casual dining, social gatherings and after-work occasions. It combines a craft beer programme with a multi-cuisine food menu focused on dishes that can be shared.

According to the company, the new location extends Berlin Brew’s presence into a busy commercial and entertainment district that attracts office-goers, residents and visitors seeking dining and nightlife experiences.

Craft beer and cider programme

At the centre of Berlin Brew’s offering is a rotating selection of fresh, small-batch beers. The brand regularly brews new batches to keep its beverage programme varied and encourage customers to explore different styles.

Its portfolio includes:

  • Milk Stout.
  • Dunkelweizen.
  • Belgian Witbier.
  • Hefeweizen.
  • Cider variants.
  • Seasonal beer offerings.

Recent beverage additions include Kala Khatta Cider and Lichi Vanilla Cider. The seasonal range includes Mango IPA, adding fruit-led and limited-period options to the menu.

The company’s founders said their interest in craft beer developed through exposure to brewing traditions and beer culture during travels across Germany, London and Colombia. That experience led them to explore how a more diverse beer culture could be presented to Indian consumers in an accessible format.

“When we first discovered craft beer during our travels, what stood out to us was the variety and the attention to how each beer was made,” said Roshan Thakkar, founder of Berlin Brew. He added that the brand wanted to make craft beer approachable rather than complicated or intimidating, while creating a space where guests could relax and enjoy good beer and food.

Food designed for sharing

The Kamala Mills outlet pairs its beer selection with a multi-cuisine menu featuring flavour-forward dishes. The offering is intended to complement the drinks and suit group dining, casual meals and social occasions.

Dishes highlighted by the brand include:

  • Gochujang Potatoes.
  • Mini Blue Cheese Kulcha.
  • Butter Garlic Prawns.

The menu also includes German-inspired favourites interpreted through a Mumbai palate. This approach reflects Berlin Brew’s wider positioning: using international beer and food influences while adapting flavours and hospitality to local preferences.

Neighbourhood-led outlet formats

Berlin Brew’s outlets are designed to offer different experiences depending on their location. The brand has described its existing formats as including:

  • A lively after-work setting at Times Square, Saki Naka.
  • An open-air Beer Garden near Veera Desai Road.
  • A book-lined Beer Library.
  • The new Kamala Mills taproom in Lower Parel.

Although each venue responds to its surroundings, Berlin Brew aims to retain a common focus on beer, food and hospitality across its locations.

The Kamala Mills opening therefore forms part of a broader strategy to build a recognisable brand while giving individual outlets a distinct identity.

Focus on operational consistency

As it expands, Berlin Brew is working to develop systems that can support consistent customer experiences across multiple outlets. These include recipe standardisation, staff training, procurement processes, beer-quality controls and outlet-level accountability.

“Growth only matters if the guest experience survives it,” said Aniket Patil, founder of Berlin Brew. He said the company was strengthening its recipes, training, procurement, quality checks and accountability before adding more locations.

“Our long-term ambition is to build Berlin Brew towards 20 outlets, but we want each new opening to feel considered rather than copied,” Patil said.

Expansion outlook

The Kamala Mills launch strengthens Berlin Brew’s position in Mumbai’s growing craft beer and casual dining market. The company is positioning its outlets not only as places to drink beer, but also as social spaces that combine food, neighbourhood-specific design and an experiential hospitality format.

With the new Lower Parel outlet, Berlin Brew will continue developing a platform built around craft beer discovery, approachable food and community-oriented spaces. The brand’s next phase of growth will depend on balancing its ambition to expand with its stated focus on quality, value and consistency across locations.
